Now He Can Aspire
When ten-year-old Bonsa Lalenda’s parents noticed he was blind in one eye four years ago, they took him to a clinic where he was given ointment that sadly failed to restore his sight.
Trachoma is a highly infectious disease that’s running rampant because of rural Ethiopia’s poor sanitation. Tragically, unless treated, his second eye could become repeatedly infected and result in blindness later in life. Although it isn’t known what caused the blindness in Bonsa’s left eye, trachoma is a constant threat to his right eye.
By promoting a highly efficacious antibiotic called Zithromax®, ORBIS is overturning Ethiopian villagers’ reluctance to use medication to combat trachoma. In enthusiastically implementing the “SAFE” strategy (Surgery, Antibiotics, Face washing and Environmental improvement), we are bringing hope to many impoverished acute trachoma sufferers in Ethiopia.
Thanks to your donations, Bonsa has begun Zithromax therapy and can look forward to a sighted future free from fear and filled with more important things, like his schooling and family.
