JOB SUMMARY:
The Development Associate supports the U.S. Development Department’s corporate, foundation and individual donor fundraising activities by conducting research on potential and existing donors, participating in the drafting of various donor materials such as grant proposals, presentations, letters and by providing general administrative and logistical support, including Raiser’s Edge data entry, coordination of donor mailings and communications, customer service to donors, and hands-on assistance with events and special projects.
REPORTING & WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
The Development Coordinator reports to the Interim Director, Development, and works closely with colleagues in the U.S. Development Department. S/he liaises regularly with colleagues cross departmentally in NY and other ORBIS offices.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS / KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Identify and rate potential and current donors who have the capacity to make leadership annual and major gifts from all philanthropic sources (individuals, corporations and foundations). In addition, provide relevant information to help facilitate strategy development, engagement and solicitation of prospective and current donors as well as create and maintain confidential, easily retrievable donor profiles.
Donor prospect and current donor research:

Research prospective donors for the corporate and foundation sectors

Provide due diligence reports on corporate partners

Maintain corporate and foundation donor profiles

Qualify identified individual donor leads

Helps identify matching gift prospects
-
Compile and maintain media, advocacy and PR materials for donors
Presentations:
Grants and Donor reports:

Generate information/materials necessary to create grant proposals and donor reports

In conjunction with supervisor, draft grant proposals, donor reports and other written materials
Database management:

Assist with maintaining Raiser’s Edge database, including data entry, reporting and list outputs, insuring accuracy of all data, and generating financial reports

Execute list segmentation queries and prepare final mailing lists for Development corporate and foundation campaigns and updates

Assist with basic customer service to current and prospective donors via telephone and email

Ensure donors’ comments and feedback are passed along to the appropriate colleagues in the development and other departments
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree
-
Minimum 3 years non-profit fundraising experience

Experience with Raiser’s Edge or other donor database a plus, including data entry, queries, imports and reporting essential

Can-do, enthusiastic attitude

Previous experience conducting prospect research

Knowledge of foundation and/or corporate fundraising a plus

Proven proficiency in Raiser’s Edge software
