ORBIS hosted stakeholder conference to develop children's services

ORBIS hosted an international conference for the eye health community in Sub-Saharan Africa. On 4 and 5 May 2011 international experts in paediatric eye care gathered in Cape Town to plan a five-year strategy to bring quality paediatric eye care to the children of sub-Saharan Africa. The conference titled Planning for Comprehensive Eye Care for Children in sub-Saharan Africa  focused on developing a comprehensive model for managing avoidable childhood blindness in the region.

Over the two days ORBIS brought together a group of professionals who work in the field of eye care and blindness prevention in Africa todevelop a plan for how we together can bring quality paediatric eye care to the children of sub-Saharan Africa. The event also aimed to identify ways in which we can finance the implementation of the plan and to hence drastically improve children's access to eye care over the next 5 years.
ORBIS believes that no single player can manage to bring eye care to children alone and this meeting was an opportunity for all those involved to develop a strategic and collaborative plan together. Our experience globally has proven that by working in partnership we can get closer to our Vision 2020 goal of alleviating preventable blindness.
