Matching gifts
Double the impact of your gift to ORBIS by asking your employer to make a matching gift. Contact a human resources representative at your workplace to see if your company offers a matching gift incentive.

Planned giving
Make a lasting difference by naming ORBIS as a beneficiary in your will. You may designate ORBIS International as the beneficiary of a percentage of your estate, or you can designate a set amount or a particular asset. In the United States, your estate is entitled to an estate tax deduction for the full value of your bequest to ORBIS. Consult an estate planning professional or an attorney to help you create an estate plan that is appropriate for you. ORBIS is a nonprofit organization under section 501(c)(3) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code. Our federal ID number is 23-7297651.

Donate stocks and securities
ORBIS gratefully accepts securities and mutual funds as charitable donations. If your financial services provider holds securities, including mutual funds, in your account, you can have the securities electronically transferred to the ORBIS brokerage. Your gift is complete on the date that the stock is transferred. The value of your gift will be the mean value of the stock on the transfer instruction date. Please contact Tricia Hart, Associate Director, Individual Giving at donations@orbis.org, for further information on how to make the electronic transfer.

If you have stock certificates you would like to donate, please send the unendorsed certificate and a signed stock power, available from your financial services provider, in separate envelopes to Tricia Hart, Associate Director, Individual Giving, ORBIS International, 520 8th Avenue, 11th Floor, New York, NY 10018. Your gift will be complete on the date of the postmark of the later envelope. It is ORBIS policy to sell all gifts of securities as soon as ORBIS is notified of the transfer by its stockbroker. The proceeds are then applied to ORBIS programs and related activities.

Please note that in the United States, if you would like to donate stock that has depreciated in value, selling the stock yourself and donating the amount you receive may enable you to write off the loss on your taxes.

Donate frequent flyer miles
Donate your frequent flier miles to ORBIS and help transport ophthalmic experts to sight-saving programs throughout the world! Just 35,000 miles could send one ORBIS doctor on a trip to restore sight or prevent blindness in Africa, India, China or one of our other destinations. We gratefully accept both United Miles Plus® and Asia Miles. Here’s how:

• United Airlines
  Set up a United Airlines Mileage Plus account, if you don't already have one, by visiting the United website. Whenever you fly United or a Star Alliance carrier, ask United to credit your earned miles to your Mileage Plus account. Star Alliance carriers include Air Canada, Air New Zealand, All Nippon Airways, Ansett Australia, Austrian Airlines, British Midland, Lauda Airways, Lufthansa, Mexicana, SAS, Singapore Airlines, Thai Airways International, Tyrolean Airways and Varig.

To make a minimum donation of 1,000 miles to ORBIS, call United at 1.800.421.4655 and request that your miles be transferred into ORBIS’s charity miles account. Notify ORBIS of your donation by calling Tricia Hart at 1.800.ORBIS.US (1.800.672.4787), ext. 5526, or by e-mailing donations@orbis.org.

• AsiaMiles
  To donate your Asia Miles to ORBIS, log into your account and click on donate your miles. You can donate an unlimited number of miles. However, each donation must be at least 10,000 miles, with further increments of 5,000 miles. Through eBay, The World's Online Marketplace®, you can sell items you no longer wish to keep and have all or part of the proceeds go directly to ORBIS.
