One evening in April of 2010, I happily gave my father my 3rd semester report card. My happiness dissipated when he said, “I can’t make out what it’s saying.”  My father, who has had 20/20 vision for over 45 years, was having trouble seeing size 12 font. He could not see anything from his right eye.

We are both affected when he shares his fear of losing sight in the other eye, as the blindness of one person affects countless other people in unseeable ways. His experiences have prompted me to work towards helping others plagued by blindness to recover their sight --through surgery, medication, or any form of treatment. Therefore, I am combining two of my passions in a competitive tennis tournament sponsored by the USTA (United States Tennis Association) to raise money, which will be donated to ORBIS and their flying eye hospital efforts.
